El d\u00eda de ma\u00f1ana, los pacientes tendr\u00e1n que hacer frente a problemas de salud por ello.<\/p><p>Puede que a los pacientes con un nivel bajo de alfabetizaci\u00f3n en salud les cueste gestionar enfermedades a largo plazo, tomar la medicaci\u00f3n correctamente, cumplir las recomendaciones de los profesionales sanitarios y entender los h\u00e1bitos de vida necesarios para combatir la enfermedad (Lamb y Berry 2014). A su vez, es posible que a los pacientes con un nivel bajo de alfabetizaci\u00f3n en salud les resulte dif\u00edcil hacerse cargo de la salud de sus hijos y\/o de cualquier otra persona que necesite cuidados. En entornos comunitarios y de atenci\u00f3n primaria, un nivel bajo de alfabetizaci\u00f3n en salud puede resultar en que no se busque atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a tiempo (Protheroe et al 2009). La falta de visitas rutinarias a centros de salud y la ausencia de medidas para prevenir la enfermedad resultan en pacientes diagnosticados en fases avanzadas de la enfermedad y mayor riesgo para la salud, incluyendo la muerte. Los pacientes a los que les cuesta entender la informaci\u00f3n sanitaria es m\u00e1s probable que no acudan a las citas rutinarias del m\u00e9dico. Vaya secci\u00f3n por secci\u00f3n explicando la informaci\u00f3n al paciente y p\u00eddale que repita la explicaci\u00f3n. Al final, resuma las secciones para comprobar si han entendido todo.<\/p><p><strong>3.H\u00e1galo Sencillo.<\/strong><\/p><p>Imag\u00ednese que debe explic\u00e1rselo a un ni\u00f1o de 8 a\u00f1os, ese es el punto de partida. Las frases deben ser cortas. Utilice siempre los mismos t\u00e9rminos. Si, por ejemplo, usa el t\u00e9rmino \u00abtensi\u00f3n alta\u00bb, no use despu\u00e9s \u00abhipertensi\u00f3n\u00bb, puede que el paciente desconozca que se trata de lo mismo si tiene dos nombres diferentes.<\/p><p><strong>4.Ofrezca Ayuda.<\/strong><\/p><p>Asuma que nadie puede leer. Si parte de esa suposici\u00f3n y ajusta la comunicaci\u00f3n una vez conoce a los pacientes, se reduce el riesgo de perder alg\u00fan paciente. Quienes no sepan leer, no lo dir\u00e1n.
